Recovery from Extensive
Oral Cavity Carcinoma:
. . . L.R. is a 74 year old white female who was diagnosed
with a T2NO (stage II) squamous cell carcinoma of the
right side of the oral cavity in January 1997.
. . . Five months postoperatively, L.R. was provided a
Facial-Flex and prescribed an eight-week course of dynamic
resistance oral exercise.

Treatment
of Voice Disorders:
. . . The patient is a 57 year
old male with a 4-5 month history of hoarseness, hypernasality
and strain with voice use.
. . . The patient completed an eight-week course of
therapy including four, biweekly, 30-45 minute speech
therapy sessions and exercise with the Facial-Flex.

of Facial Muscle Strength in the Disabled:
. . . Case
1: Left Cerebrovascular Accident - 90 year
old female who suffered a left middle cerebral vascular
occlusion (stroke).
. . . At the end of the three week period exercise period,
during eating and drinking,, there was no anterior leakage,
and the right facial droop had approached symmetry.
. . .
Case 2: Idiopathic Parkinsonism - 85 year
old male with idiopathic Parkinsonism . . . generalized
oral-neurological weakness with action tremor.
. . . At the end of the three week period exercise period,
. . . Significantly, the action tremor had completely
resolved.

3: Right Cerebrovascular Accident - 80
year old male who suffered right middle cerebral artery
occlusion . . . inability to maintain the oral pucker
to sip from a straw.
. . . At the completion of the three week exercise period,
the patient was able to drink from a straw.
